Top Cop Details Investigation Into Murder Of Suvendu Adhikari’s Aide

Suvendu Adhikari aide murdered; police confirm ongoing investigation.

West Bengal Police have intensified their investigation into the alleged murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant of West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, following his death in a shooting incident in Madhyamgram. Authorities have seized a vehicle suspected to have been used in the crime as part of a widening probe into what is being described as a targeted attack.

West Bengal Director General of Police Siddh Nath Gupta confirmed that forensic teams have recovered live ammunition and fired cartridges from the scene of the incident. He stated that investigators are treating the case with urgency and are examining multiple pieces of physical and circumstantial evidence. According to him, the seized four-wheeler linked to the crime is also under scrutiny, with preliminary findings suggesting that its number plate may have been tampered with or forged.

Gupta added that eyewitness accounts are being recorded and that a detailed reconstruction of the sequence of events is underway. Police teams are also analyzing ballistic evidence recovered from the site near Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district, where the attack took place. The official emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and no conclusions have yet been reached regarding the motive or identities of the assailants.

The incident occurred a day earlier when Rath was allegedly shot while travelling in a vehicle. He later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Another individual accompanying him was also injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment. The case has triggered heightened political tensions in the state, with opposition leaders alleging that it was a premeditated and targeted killing.

Reacting strongly, BJP leaders have described the killing as a deliberate and coordinated attack. Party spokespersons and local leaders have demanded strict action against those responsible, alleging a breakdown in law and order. BJP leader Sujay Kumar Dey claimed that multiple motorcycles were involved in the incident and that the attackers appeared to have planned the assault in advance. He also alleged that Rath was specifically targeted while others in the vehicle were left unharmed.

Dey further accused rival political forces of attempting to spread fear in the region, though these claims remain unverified by investigators. He asserted that the killing was intended to send a political message and intimidate supporters in the area. Authorities, however, have not confirmed any political motive so far and have stated that all angles, including personal and political, are being examined as part of the investigation.

With forensic analysis underway and the seized vehicle being examined, police have indicated that further breakthroughs are expected as the probe progresses. The case continues to draw significant political attention in West Bengal as authorities work to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
