TMC Rebel MPs To Meet Lok Sabha Speaker, Claim Support Of 22 MPs
TMC rebel MPs claim growing support ahead of talks with Lok Sabha Speaker.
Political activity intensified in the national capital on Sunday as rebel Trinamool Congress MPs gathered in New Delhi ahead of their scheduled meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, amid claims that the dissident camp has expanded its support base within Parliament. Senior rebel leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said the group’s strength has increased to 22 MPs, further strengthening its bid to be recognised as a separate parliamentary bloc.
Ghosh Dastidar, speaking to reporters before leaving for Delhi, said that two additional MPs are expected to join the faction and that their names will be revealed once they formally align with the group. She reiterated that the dissident MPs are seeking official recognition in the Lok Sabha and described the group as representing the “real Trinamool”, a claim that adds to the growing internal conflict within the party’s parliamentary wing.
Several prominent Trinamool MPs, including Saayoni Ghosh, Mala Roy, Satabdi Roy, Arup Chakraborty and Ghosh Dastidar, were seen meeting at the residence of Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in Delhi, signalling active political coordination ahead of their discussions with the Speaker. Sources indicated that the group had originally planned to meet in Kolkata, but the gathering was later shifted to the capital as the faction intensified its organisational efforts.

The developments come amid reports of widening divisions within the Trinamool Congress following recent political shifts in West Bengal. The dissident MPs are reportedly preparing to formally request recognition as a separate bloc in Parliament and are also expected to declare their stance on supporting the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance at the Centre, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing rift within the party.
The internal tensions have already triggered organisational changes within the Trinamool Congress. The party has reportedly removed several leaders, including Saayoni Ghosh, Mala Roy and senior MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, from key positions as part of a restructuring exercise. New appointments have been made across the party’s youth and women’s wings, while senior leader Kunal Ghosh has been assigned a major organisational role in North Kolkata.
Earlier reports also suggested that a document bearing the signatures of multiple MPs had been submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking recognition of the rebel group, although its authenticity has not been independently verified. The Speaker’s Secretariat has not issued any confirmation regarding receipt of such a request, while the Trinamool Congress leadership continues to face mounting challenges from within its parliamentary ranks.
