Tipra Motha Supporters Torch BJP Office in Tripura Says Minister
Tripura Minister accuses TMP of arson; vows strict action.
Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma has pointed fingers at supporters of Tipra Motha Party (TMP), a key ally in the BJP-led coalition government, for allegedly setting a BJP office ablaze in Mandwai, West Tripura, on Tuesday night. The brazen attack, which gutted furniture, party flags, and cutouts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Manik Saha, has sparked outrage and heightened tensions in the state’s political landscape.
Debbarma, who visited the fire-ravaged office on Wednesday, condemned the act as a deliberate attempt to undermine the BJP’s stronghold in Tripura. “A group of Tipra Motha supporters poured petrol and set the office on fire. This is a cowardly act, but let me be clear—no one can weaken the BJP through such attacks on our offices or workers,” he declared, vowing severe consequences for those responsible.
A formal complaint has been lodged at the Mandwai police station, with Debbarma demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. “The police will act swiftly and as per the law. Those trying to destabilize Tripura’s peace will face justice,” he asserted, signaling a no-tolerance stance.

The incident follows recent remarks by Chief Minister Manik Saha, who criticized TMP for allegedly attacking BJP workers and journalists in Hezamara, West Tripura. The escalating friction between the coalition partners raises questions about the stability of the BJP-led government in the state.
Local residents expressed shock at the incident, with many calling for a thorough investigation. “This kind of violence is unacceptable. We want peace and development, not destruction,” said Ratan Das, a shopkeeper near the BJP office.
The police have launched an investigation, collecting evidence from the site, including traces of petrol and CCTV footage from nearby areas. Authorities have assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon.
As political tensions simmer, all eyes are on how the BJP and TMP navigate this crisis within their coalition. Will this incident fracture their alliance, or can they resolve their differences? For now, Tripura remains on edge as the investigation unfolds.
