Defending her decision with fiery conviction, Chowdhury told waiting reporters that she had picked up the injured stray earlier in the morning and was simply ensuring it reached a veterinarian for urgent treatment. Dismissing the outrage as baseless, she challenged the critics head-on, stating there is no rule or law in the country that criminalizes the act of rescuing a helpless animal and providing it medical care.
In a remark that instantly went viral, the outspoken Congress leader launched a scathing counter-attack, declaring, “This government does not like animals. Animals don’t have a voice. He insisted that no member is permitted to bring pets or stray animals onto the high-security Parliament premises, equating it to bringing unauthorized persons without proper documentation. Visibly agitated, Pal demanded immediate disciplinary action against the Congress MP and urged the Rajya Sabha Chairman to take her to task for lowering the dignity of the House instead of focusing on serious legislative business.
