Thoothukudi Posters Declare Vijay ‘Tomorrow’s PM’ Ahead Of Tamil Nadu Political Battle

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has been projected as “Tomorrow’s PM” in posters put up in Thoothukudi, adding to growing speculation over the actor-turned-politician's possible national ambitions. The posters appeared in the port city amid recent remarks by Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Aadhav Arjuna backing Vijay as a potential candidate for the Prime Minister's post. The posters were reportedly put up by Sudhakar, a functionary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay's political party. Sudhakar recently joined the party after leaving the AIADMK. The messaging presents Vijay as a future national leader, although there has been no indication in the material provided that Vijay himself has announced a bid for the Prime Minister's position.

The development comes shortly after Arjuna publicly spoke in favour of a Prime Minister emerging from a southern state. His comments were made while supporting a resolution opposing the proposed delimitation exercise. The debate over delimitation has become a significant political issue in Tamil Nadu, with parties in the state expressing concerns about the potential impact of population-based changes to parliamentary constituencies. Arjuna argued that the current political structure gives disproportionate influence to several northern states in determining who becomes Prime Minister. He said this situation should change and that a leader from southern India, including Tamil Nadu, should also be able to emerge as Prime Minister in the future.

“The situation where five or six northern states can together decide who becomes the Prime Minister must change. In the future, a Prime Minister should also emerge from Southern States... from Tamil Nadu itself,” Arjuna said. He described the resolution as an issue of state autonomy rather than a contest between the Congress and the BJP. Arjuna further argued that the proposed delimitation exercise could deepen what he described as “North Indian dominance” and reduce Tamil Nadu's political influence. He said the state's concerns were aimed at protecting its representation and autonomy rather than serving the interests of any particular national political party.
