Thirumavalavan To Discuss With VCK Leaders Before TVK Government Decision
Thirumavalavan to consult VCK before TVK decision.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said the party will consult its senior leadership before taking a final decision on whether to join the newly formed TVK-led state cabinet, following an open invitation from the ruling party. Thirumavalavan said the TVK leadership had formally expressed its willingness for both the VCK and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) to be part of the government.
He added that the invitation was acknowledged with respect, but any decision on joining the cabinet would be taken only after internal consultations with senior office-bearers, including the party’s general secretaries and principal secretary. The VCK leader made the remarks after paying tribute to Dravidian ideologue Pandithar Ayotheethassar on his birth anniversary.
He emphasised that the party’s organisational process involves collective decision-making, and that no final position had yet been reached regarding participation in the state cabinet. Thirumavalavan also recalled that the VCK had earlier decided to extend unconditional support to the TVK for government formation. He clarified that this support was given without any conditions or demands for cabinet representation in exchange for the party’s electoral strength.

He further noted that while internal discussions had previously seen a section of the party favour joining the cabinet, the final authority had been left to the leadership. Following consultations with general secretaries earlier this month, the party had agreed to support the government formation without insisting on ministerial positions. Addressing post-election political developments, Thirumavalavan referred to earlier indications from TVK leadership suggesting an openness to VCK’s participation in governance.
He also pointed to a meeting between TVK leader Vijay and the VCK chief after the swearing-in ceremony, during which the latter reportedly expressed interest in VCK joining the government. Subsequent public statements from TVK representatives, including leader Aadhav Arjuna, have reiterated the invitation, but the VCK maintains that it will arrive at a formal decision only after completing its internal consultation process.
