Shashi Tharoor Meets Rahul-Kharge, Declares All Is Good

Shashi Tharoor meets Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, confirms all is well and party unity intact.

Senior Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor on Thursday met party President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party Chief Rahul Gandhi in a high-profile meeting at Kharge’s chamber in the Parliament House complex. The meeting, which lasted over an hour, also saw Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal in attendance.

Speaking to reporters after the discussion, Tharoor described it as “very good, constructive, and positive,” adding that he is on the “same page” with the party leadership. He emphasized that all issues are resolved and the focus remains on collective party goals rather than individual ambitions.

Asked whether the topic of Kerala’s chief ministerial candidate was discussed, Tharoor clarified that it was never on the agenda. “I am not interested in being the candidate for anything. My priority is representing my constituents from Thiruvananthapuram and serving their interests in Parliament,” he said.

The meeting comes after reports that Tharoor had been upset with the party over a series of incidents, including Rahul Gandhi allegedly not acknowledging his presence at a public event in Kochi last month. He had also skipped a key strategy session for the upcoming Kerala assembly polls, fueling speculation of internal differences.

Tharoor has also faced controversy over his comments on India-Pakistan relations and diplomatic outreach following the Pahalgam attack. While some party leaders criticized him for statements that appeared to diverge from the Congress line, Tharoor has maintained that his position aligns with the party’s broader foreign policy objectives, emphasizing bipartisanship.

Meanwhile, Kharge chaired a strategic meeting with Kerala Congress leaders on Friday to finalize the party’s poll strategy. With Tharoor affirming his alignment with the leadership, the Congress appears to be moving toward consolidating internal coordination ahead of the crucial assembly elections.
