Telangana Congress: Gutha Sukhender Reddy Bats For Cabinet Reshuffle and Discipline

MLC chief urges cabinet changes, party unity, discipline.

Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy has suggested that a reshuffle of the State Cabinet, greater discipline within the Congress and freedom for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to function could help the party secure a second consecutive term in the State. His remarks came during an informal interaction at the Legislative Council, where he discussed the functioning of the government and the need for greater coordination within the ruling party.

Reddy said a Cabinet reshuffle could bring a sense of newness to the government and help strengthen its functioning. He described Revanth Reddy as a young and dynamic Chief Minister and urged Congress leaders to work alongside him rather than create unnecessary obstacles. According to Reddy, allowing the Chief Minister greater freedom to discharge his responsibilities would help the government function more effectively.

The Council Chairman also cautioned the Congress leadership against allowing internal differences to weaken the party. He said failure to take action against leaders who cross the party line could prove detrimental to the Congress. Maintaining discipline among party leaders, he suggested, would be important for preserving unity and ensuring that disagreements do not affect the government's functioning.

Reddy's comments come amid discussions within the Telangana Congress over the government's performance and the political management of the party. A Cabinet reshuffle is often used by governments to introduce new faces, redistribute responsibilities and respond to changing political requirements. His suggestion indicates that he sees organisational discipline and changes in the ministry as measures that could help the ruling party improve its position ahead of the next electoral contest.

The remarks also underline the importance of coordination between the Chief Minister and Congress leaders in Telangana. Reddy said party leaders should "sail with" Revanth Reddy instead of creating obstacles for him. He argued that a more coordinated approach would allow the Chief Minister and his government to focus on administration while reducing internal friction within the ruling party.

Reddy's assessment reflects his view that the Congress can strengthen its prospects of returning to power if it combines administrative changes with greater unity and discipline. However, a Cabinet reshuffle or changes within the party would ultimately depend on decisions by the Congress leadership and the Chief Minister. For now, his comments add to the ongoing political discussion in Telangana over how the ruling party can consolidate its position and prepare for the next Assembly election.
