Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Claims KCR Drew Rs 1.06 Crore Without Attending Assembly

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy accuses KCR of drawing over Rs 1.06 crore in salaries without attending Assembly sessions.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday accused K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister, of drawing over ₹1.06 crore in salaries and allowances without attending Assembly sessions. Speaking during a debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor, Reddy urged the Speaker, Gaddam Prasad Kumar, to consider action against MLAs who fail to attend proceedings despite receiving remuneration.

The Chief Minister revealed that from December 1, 2023, to March 18, 2026, KCR received ₹1,06,56,674 in salary and allowances while repeatedly remaining absent from Assembly sessions. Citing a Supreme Court observation that public representatives are public servants, Reddy questioned whether officials could continue drawing salaries without performing their duties, and called for a formal debate to address the matter.

Reddy emphasized that the Leader of Opposition, in particular, should participate in discussions for the benefit of the state. He also criticized KCR for not attending key events, including the welcoming of the new Governor, Shiv Pratap Shukla, and the unveiling of the ‘Telangana Thalli’ statue in the Assembly precincts.

The Chief Minister accused BRS leaders of continuing autocratic tendencies, remarking that some still “consider themselves as kings” despite losing power. He said BRS officials had displayed arrogance during their tenure and were now repeating similar attitudes even as opposition leaders. Reddy cited statements from BRS leaders criticizing the public for giving power to Congress as evidence of this persisting mindset.

In addition, Reddy announced that the government is prepared to form a fact-finding committee to investigate encroachments and demolitions that occurred during both the BRS administration and the current regime. He reiterated that respecting parliamentary traditions and participating in Assembly functions is essential for maintaining democratic accountability.

The remarks mark a sharp escalation in political rhetoric in Telangana as tensions rise between the ruling Congress party and the BRS ahead of upcoming electoral contests, highlighting concerns about governance, accountability, and decorum in the state legislature.
