Tejashwi Yadav Says Nitish Kumar “Losing Control,” Declares End of JD(U) Era in Bihar

Tejashwi Yadav predicts Nitish Kumar’s political end, claiming JD(U) will vanish after Bihar elections.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Mahagathbandhan's chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav has issued a bold prediction about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's political future, asserting that Kumar "will be finished after the polls" and will not return to power. In an exclusive interview with the Hindustan Times on October 28, 2025, Yadav dismissed Kumar as a non-threat, citing his deteriorating health and diminished administrative control.

The remarks come amid escalating rhetoric ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, where Yadav positions himself as the opposition's unifying figure against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This claim underscores the high-stakes battle in the state, where alliances and personal rivalries could determine the next government's formation.

Yadav further alleged that the NDA has no intention of retaining Kumar as Chief Minister, pointing to the coalition's delay in announcing its own face as evidence of internal discord. "It is all clear that the NDA will not be making Kumar the chief minister again... There is no question of CM Kumar returning, as his party will cease to exist after the polls. I can vouch for it," he stated.

The Janata Dal (United) supremo's repeated shifts in alliances—most notably his 2022 flip from the Mahagathbandhan to the NDA—have long fuelled instability in Bihar politics, eroding trust among voters and allies alike. Yadav's confidence stems from recent developments, including the Mahagathbandhan's formal declaration of him as its CM candidate, backed by Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, alongside Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahani as deputy face.

When pressed on the possibility of a reunion with Kumar or the JD(U), Yadav was unequivocal, ruling out any realignment in the near future. "First, there is no question of any realignment with the JD(U) or CM Kumar... After the polls, the JD(U) will be finished, and the party will cease to exist. So, where is the question?" he remarked. This stance reflects lingering bitterness from the 2022 betrayal, when Kumar's exit toppled the RJD-led government despite the alliance's strong performance. Yadav also revisited the 2020 elections, accusing the NDA of "malpractices" and "poll discrepancies" that allegedly denied the Mahagathbandhan a majority, vowing heightened vigilance to prevent repeats.

Yadav expressed unwavering optimism about securing a clear majority for the Mahagathbandhan in the upcoming polls, scheduled in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results on November 14. The 243-seat Bihar Assembly remains a crucial arena for national opposition dynamics, testing the INDIA bloc's cohesion post its recent seat-sharing resolutions. As campaigning intensifies, Yadav's provocative narrative aims to consolidate anti-NDA sentiment among youth and marginalised communities, leveraging his image as a dynamic alternative to Kumar's veteran status. Political observers note that while Yadav's bravado energises his base, the outcome will hinge on voter turnout and alliance arithmetic in this polarised heartland state.
