Tejashwi Yadav Says Bihar Tops Only in Corruption and Crime After Governor’s Address

Tejashwi Yadav calls Governor’s address scripted and says Bihar leads only in corruption and crime.

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government following Governor Arif Mohammad Khan’s opening address to the Budget Session of the Assembly. Terming the speech a “routine formality,” Tejashwi said governors merely read what the government drafts for them.

Questioning the claims of progress highlighted in the address, the RJD leader asserted that Bihar’s ground reality sharply contradicts the narrative of development. He alleged that the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated significantly, citing frequent incidents of rape, murder, kidnapping, and shootings.

Tejashwi also raised doubts over the credibility of central agency investigations in sensitive cases. Referring to the CBI probe into the alleged rape and suspicious death of a NEET aspirant, he questioned the outcomes of earlier high-profile cases such as the Muzaffarpur girls’ shelter home case and the Srijan scam.

Accusing the state administration of widespread corruption, Tejashwi claimed that bribery has become routine at blocks and police stations across Bihar. He alleged that corruption has deeply penetrated governance and directly impacts service delivery to the common people.

Directly targeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi asked why Bihar continues to rank among the most backward states in the country. He cited indicators such as per capita income and NITI Aayog reports, alleging that Bihar leads only in crime and corruption while lagging on development parameters.

The RJD leader also questioned government claims on employment generation and industrial growth, calling them vague and unrealistic. Criticising the Union Budget, he alleged that Bihar was ignored by the Centre, accusing it of prioritising states facing upcoming elections over genuine development needs.

Earlier in the day, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, in his address, highlighted the government’s achievements since 2005, particularly in education, healthcare, policing, and infrastructure. He stated that sustained efforts by the Nitish Kumar government have brought visible improvements in governance and public services across the state.
