Tejashwi Yadav Narrowly Wins Raghopur, RJD's Traditional Stronghold, With Over 11,000-Vote Margin

Tejashwi Yadav, the face of the Opposition Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, has emerged victorious in the politically significant Raghopur assembly seat, winning by a margin of over 11,000 votes. Known as one of the safest seats for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Raghopur has been represented by Tejashwi's family for years, including his father and RJD founder Lalu Prasad Yadav and his mother Rabri Devi. Despite strong competition, particularly from the BJP's Satish Kumar Yadav, Tejashwi consolidated his position with a hard-fought win.

The 36-year-old leader conveyed confidence in his party's prospects, stating firmly that “it will be a people's victory” and expressing commitment to forming the government soon. Earlier, he has represented Raghopur since 2015, winning the 2020 election by a margin exceeding 38,000 votes. This time, the contest was tighter, reflecting a growing political challenge, including from the BJP and Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party.

Satish Kumar Yadav of the BJP, who famously defeated Rabri Devi in the 2010 polls as a JD(U) candidate, was the main challenger this election. Additionally, the intriguing presence of Prem Kumar from Janashakti Janata Dal, founded by Tejashwi’s estranged brother Tej Pratap Yadav, added to the political dynamics in Raghopur.

Despite the close contest, Tejashwi's victory underlines the continued trust of constituents in the RJD and its leadership legacy in Raghopur. Tejashwi’s win is seen as both a personal and political reaffirmation ahead of the larger fight for state governance.
