Tej Pratap in Trouble Again: Booked for Using Police Beacon During Nomination Rally

RJD leader's son in trouble for flouting Poll rules.

Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad and chief of the Janshakti Janta Dal, has been charged with violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during his nomination filing for the Mahua assembly seat in Bihar’s Vaishali district. The controversy erupted after a viral social media video exposed Yadav’s alleged misuse of a vehicle adorned with a police logo and a beacon light during a procession on October 16, 2025, as he submitted his nomination papers.

According to a statement released by the Vaishali district police on Sunday, the Circle Officer of Mahua filed a formal complaint after reviewing the video evidence. The investigation revealed that the SUV, prominently featuring a police logo and a flashing beacon, was not an official police vehicle but a private one, constituting a clear breach of the election code. "The matter was thoroughly examined, and it was confirmed that the police logo and beacon light were unauthorized. Consequently, a case was registered against Tej Pratap Yadav for violating the MCC," the police statement clarified.

This incident adds another chapter to the turbulent political journey of Tej Pratap, who was expelled from the RJD by his father, Lalu Prasad, on May 25, 2025, for six years. The expulsion followed Tej Pratap’s public admission on social media about being in a romantic relationship, a post he later deleted, claiming his Facebook account was hacked. Lalu Prasad, distancing himself from his son, cited "irresponsible behaviour" as the reason for the drastic step. The fallout deepened the rift within the family, with Tej Pratap alleging a conspiracy to sow discord between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s prominent leader.

In a series of posts on his X handle, Tej Pratap vented his frustration, referring to an unnamed "Jaichand"—a historical figure symbolizing betrayal—as the mastermind behind the family’s internal strife. "There are conspiracies afoot to drive a wedge between me and Tejashwi. I will not let these traitors succeed," he wrote, hinting at internal sabotage within the RJD ranks. Despite his expulsion, Tej Pratap launched the Janshakti Janta Dal, positioning himself as a new political force in Bihar, a move that has further intensified the spotlight on his actions.

The MCC violation has sparked widespread debate, with critics accusing Tej Pratap of attempting to leverage the optics of authority to bolster his campaign. Political analysts suggest this incident could dent his credibility as he seeks to establish his fledgling party in Bihar’s competitive political landscape. Supporters, however, claim the controversy is a targeted effort to undermine his candidacy ahead of the elections.

As the case unfolds, all eyes are on the Election Commission and the courts to see how this violation will impact Tej Pratap’s electoral prospects. Will this be a minor hiccup or a major setback for the controversial leader? With Bihar’s political scene heating up, this scandal promises to keep Tej Pratap Yadav in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
