TDP Rajya Sabha Nominations: YSRCP Says 33% Women's Reservation Promise Has Gone Missing
YSRCP accused TDP of ignoring women's reservation despite Chandrababu Naidu's public pledge.
A political row has erupted in Andhra Pradesh after the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) accused the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of failing to honor its commitment to women's political representation in its latest Rajya Sabha nominations. The criticism comes shortly after the TDP leadership reiterated its support for 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has finalized the party's candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Sitting MP Sana Satish Babu has been renominated, while educationist Bhashyam Ramakrishna and TDP State General Secretary Chintakayala Vijay have also been selected as candidates for the Upper House.
Reacting to the nominations, YSRCP launched a sharp attack on the ruling party, alleging a disconnect between its public statements and political decisions. In a social media post, the opposition questioned the absence of women among the nominees and mocked the coalition government's repeated promises regarding women's reservation.

The opposition party pointed out that Naidu had recently endorsed a proposal by TDP National General Secretary Nara Lokesh to ensure 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies by 2029. YSRCP argued that the Rajya Sabha elections presented an immediate opportunity to demonstrate that commitment and questioned why no woman candidate had been nominated.
According to YSRCP, women in Andhra Pradesh are seeking meaningful political representation rather than symbolic announcements. The party alleged that the ruling alliance was using women-centric initiatives primarily for political messaging and urged the government to back its promises with concrete action by increasing women's participation in Parliament and decision-making positions.
The controversy has added a new dimension to the ongoing political rivalry between the TDP-led NDA government and the opposition YSRCP. While the ruling party has maintained that it remains committed to enhancing women's representation in politics, the opposition has turned the Rajya Sabha nominations into a fresh battleground over the issue of gender equality and political empowerment in Andhra Pradesh.
