TDP Likely To Secure Three Rajya Sabha Seats, One Seat May Be Allocated To JSP

TDP likely to win three Rajya Sabha seats, allotting one to JSP.

The race for four Rajya Sabha seats from Andhra Pradesh has intensified within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) expected to secure a majority of the vacancies given its dominant position in the State Assembly.

The TDP-led NDA government currently holds a strong majority with 164 MLAs in the 175-member Assembly, making it well placed to win all four Rajya Sabha seats that have fallen vacant. The elections are scheduled for June 18, and political negotiations within the alliance are now focused on seat-sharing arrangements among partners.

According to political speculation, the Telugu Desam Party may retain three seats for itself while allocating one seat to its ally, the Jana Sena Party led by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. However, uncertainty persists over whether any seat will be allotted to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with indications that discussions between state-level leaders have not yet yielded clarity.

Within the TDP, internal competition for nominations has intensified, with several senior leaders and aspirants lobbying party leadership. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is reportedly reviewing multiple names as the party attempts to balance organisational loyalty, caste equations, and political strategy while finalising its candidates.

Among those under consideration is sitting member Sana Satish Babu, who is said to be close to TDP working president and IT Minister Nara Lokesh. If his continuation is approved, the party will have to select candidates for the remaining two seats, further narrowing the field for aspirants.

Several senior leaders, including former minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, former MPs Kambhampati Rammohan Rao and Galla Jayadev, as well as Politburo member Varla Ramaiah, are reportedly seeking nominations. Party sources indicate that the leadership is taking additional time to weigh competing claims and political equations before making final announcements. If the Jana Sena Party is allotted a Rajya Sabha seat, industrialist Lingamaneni Ramesh is being considered as a possible nominee, according to party circles.

Meanwhile, speculation continues over the final distribution of seats within the alliance, as negotiations remain fluid. The four vacancies have arisen following the retirement of members including YSR Congress Party representatives Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, and Parimal Nathwani, along with TDP’s Sana Satish, setting the stage for a closely watched electoral contest in the Upper House.
