Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Opposes Delimitation, Warns Of Statewide Agitation

Stalin warns of massive agitation if delimitation reduces Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary representation.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Tuesday issued a strong warning against the proposed delimitation exercise, stating that the state would launch a massive agitation if its parliamentary representation is reduced. His remarks have intensified the political confrontation between the state and the Centre over the issue.

In a video message posted on social media platform X, M. K. Stalin questioned whether delimitation would effectively penalise states like Tamil Nadu, which have successfully implemented population control measures. He argued that any reduction in representation would be unfair to southern states that have contributed to national development while maintaining lower population growth rates.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Union government is attempting to move forward with the delimitation process without adequate consultation with states, calling it a unilateral decision that could weaken India’s federal structure. He warned that Tamil Nadu would not remain silent if its political voice in Parliament is diminished.

M. K. Stalin further stated that if the exercise proceeds, the state would respond with large-scale protests. He emphasised that the issue is not limited to electoral boundaries but is tied to principles of federalism and state rights, asserting that Tamil Nadu’s stance would be firm and uncompromising.

He also referred to reports suggesting a special parliamentary session related to the issue, questioning the transparency and timing of such a move. According to him, any attempt to push through changes without consensus could lead to widespread resistance across the state.

Escalating his remarks, M. K. Stalin said Tamil Nadu could witness unprecedented protests if delimitation is imposed, invoking the legacy of the Dravidian movement as a symbol of political resistance. His comments underline growing concerns among southern states over the potential impact of delimitation on their representation in Parliament.
