The Tamil Nadu Assembly election campaign is nearing its conclusion, with polling scheduled for April 23 and public campaigning set to end on April 21 at 5 p.m. A total of 4,023 candidates are contesting across all 234 constituencies, setting the stage for a closely watched electoral battle in the state.
The contest has turned into a multi-cornered political fight involving major parties such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and the Tamil Manila Congress (TMC), along with several other regional and smaller outfits. The wide field of candidates reflects the intense political competition across constituencies.
According to official figures, more than 5.73 crore voters — precisely 5,73,43,291 — are eligible to cast their votes in this election. The Election Commission has launched extensive voter awareness campaigns across Tamil Nadu, aiming to improve participation and push towards maximum turnout in what is considered a high-stakes democratic exercise.
