T20 WC 2026: India And West Indies Share 6-Point Dominance Across Groups In Points Table
India defeats Pakistan by 61 runs to top Group A and advance to the Super Eights stage.
India delivered a commanding performance against Pakistan to secure qualification for the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, while the West Indies and the United States also registered convincing victories on Day 9 of the tournament.
The day began at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where the West Indies national cricket team defeated the Nepal national cricket team by nine wickets. Nepal posted 133/8 after opting to bat first, riding on Dipendra Singh Airee’s fighting 58 off 47 balls. Former West Indies captain Jason Holder starred with the ball, claiming 4/27. In reply, captain Shai Hope remained unbeaten on 61, while Shimron Hetmyer contributed 46 to guide their side to a comfortable win and the top of Group C.
In the second match in Chennai, the United States national cricket team posted a dominant total of 199/4 against the Namibia national cricket team. Captain Monank Patel struck 52 off 30 balls, while Sanjay Krishnamurthi powered an unbeaten 68 from 33 deliveries. Namibia’s chase was anchored by Louren Steenkamp’s half-century but lacked support, finishing at 168/6. The USA became the first team in the 20-nation event to complete all four of its group matches.

The spotlight then shifted to R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where the much-anticipated clash between the India national cricket team and the Pakistan national cricket team unfolded. Powered by Ishan Kishan’s explosive 77 off 40 balls, India posted 175/7. Pakistan’s batting lineup struggled in reply and was bowled out for 114, with Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy picking up two wickets each.
With the emphatic win, India remained unbeaten at the top of Group A and officially booked a place in the Super Eight stage. The West Indies also lead Group C with three consecutive victories, while the USA’s strong showing has kept them firmly in contention as the group stage of the tournament intensifies.
