Actor celebrates Gadar milestone and acknowledges audience support.

Actor Sunny Deol has marked the 25th anniversary of his blockbuster film Gadar, expressing gratitude to audiences for their unwavering love and support over the years. The actor celebrated the milestone by sharing memories from the film and acknowledging the enduring bond fans have maintained with one of Indian cinema’s most iconic productions.

Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was released on June 15, 2001, and emerged as a landmark film in Hindi cinema. Starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in lead roles, the film told the story of Tara Singh, a Sikh truck driver, and Sakina, a Muslim woman, whose love story unfolds against the backdrop of the Partition of India. The film combined romance, action and patriotism, resonating strongly with audiences across the country.

To commemorate the occasion, Deol shared a series of stills from the film on Instagram and reflected on its remarkable journey. In his message, the actor thanked fans for keeping the story alive in their hearts for a quarter of a century. “25 years ago, Gadar and Tara Singh conquered your hearts. For 25 years, this journey of love has continued and will keep going,” he wrote.

Thanking viewers for their support, he said the love shown to Gadar had ensured that both the film and its characters remained memorable long after its release. He added that he hoped future generations would continue to cherish the movie in the years ahead.

Upon its release, Gadar became a massive commercial success and was among the highest-grossing Indian films of its era. The film reportedly earned more than ₹133 crore worldwide, a remarkable achievement at a time when the Indian film industry operated on a significantly smaller scale than it does today. Its powerful performances, memorable dialogues and emotional storyline helped it attain cult status.

The legacy of the franchise was revived in 2023 with the release of Gadar 2, which saw Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprise their beloved roles. The sequel proved to be another box-office phenomenon, grossing more than ₹600 crore worldwide and introducing the story to a new generation of moviegoers. As Gadar completes 25 years, its continued popularity stands as a testament to its lasting impact on Indian cinema and popular culture.
