Stalin Mocks Vijay Over Assembly Conduct, Says CM Delivers Cinema-Style Punch Dialogues

Stalin mocks Vijay's Assembly conduct.

DMK president MK Stalin on Saturday criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay over his conduct in the state Assembly, accusing him of treating the legislature like a "cinema set" and focusing on delivering "punch dialogues". Stalin made the remarks while addressing a DMK executive meeting, where he also alleged that the state government was changing the names of schemes introduced during the DMK's tenure. Stalin said the current chief minister was occupied with renaming schemes associated with the previous DMK government rather than focusing on the concerns of people. "The present Chief Minister is busy changing the names of all the schemes we introduced," Stalin said, according to news agency ANI.

He alleged that the government's approach reflected an attempt to distance itself from initiatives launched under the DMK. Taking a swipe at Vijay's conduct in the Assembly, Stalin said the chief minister was treating the legislative proceedings like a film set. "He is treating the Legislative Assembly like a cinema set and delivering punch dialogues," Stalin said. The remark was a direct reference to Vijay's background as a prominent actor before entering electoral politics and assuming the chief minister's office. Stalin also contrasted what he described as Vijay's approach with the DMK's connection to the public.

He said the party's commitment to people would remain unchanged regardless of electoral outcomes. "As far as we are concerned, whether we win or lose, we are people who remain deeply connected with the day-to-day lives of the people," he said. Stalin's comments came as political parties in Tamil Nadu continue to position themselves ahead of future electoral contests. The remarks also referred to an incident in the state Assembly in June, when the opposition DMK staged a walkout. Vijay continued with proceedings and later sought permission from Speaker JCD Pabhakar to bring the episode to a dramatic conclusion. His gesture was seen as mirroring a similar action associated with Stalin during his tenure as chief minister.

Vijay's political career has developed alongside his longstanding public profile as an actor. His transition from the entertainment industry to politics has brought considerable attention to his public appearances and political style. Stalin's latest comments directly invoked that background while questioning how Vijay conducts himself inside the state legislature. The dispute over the renaming of government schemes reflects a broader political contest over the legacy of previous administrations. Governments frequently modify or rename schemes after coming to power, while opposition parties can portray such changes as attempts to erase or diminish their policy achievements. Stalin's accusation places the issue within the wider political rivalry between the DMK and the current administration.

The Assembly-related criticism similarly highlights competing political styles. Stalin has sought to portray the DMK as a party rooted in organisational work and engagement with everyday public concerns, while his criticism of Vijay focuses on what he describes as theatrical conduct inside the legislature. Vijay's supporters have previously highlighted his public appeal and communication style as part of his political identity. Stalin's remarks are likely to intensify the political debate in Tamil Nadu, where the entry of a major film personality into electoral politics has reshaped the competitive landscape. His criticism of Vijay combines questions over Assembly conduct, government scheme names and political priorities, reflecting the increasingly sharp contest between established parties and newer political forces in the state.
