Shivakumar Stays Firm as Congress “Disciplined Soldier,” Dismisses Resignation Talk
Karnataka deputy CM affirms loyalty amid power shift buzz.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar categorically dismissed persistent rumors of resigning from his position as State Congress President during a press interaction in New Delhi on Sunday, positioning himself as a “disciplined soldier” fully aligned with the party’s leadership and ready to execute any assigned responsibilities without disruption.
The speculation intensified following Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s closed-door meeting with Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi in the national capital on Saturday, interpreted by observers as a precursor to potential leadership adjustments or a broader Cabinet reshuffle within the Karnataka government. Shivakumar, however, clarified that decisions regarding ministerial changes remain the exclusive domain of Siddaramaiah, to be finalized only after thorough deliberations with the party’s central high command.
Present in Delhi primarily to extend formal invitations to Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for the upcoming foundation-laying ceremony of 100 new party offices across Karnataka, Shivakumar challenged the logic behind resignation claims. “These are critical organizational events requiring hands-on coordination—who would oversee them if I departed? No circumstance warranting such a step has emerged,” he asserted to reporters, underscoring his indispensable role in ongoing initiatives.

Attributing the circulating narratives to media amplification rather than internal discord, Shivakumar issued a resolute declaration of allegiance: “I will never resort to blackmailing the Congress. Having invested sleepless nights in building this organization from the grassroots, my commitment endures—I will drive the party back to victory in the 2028 assembly elections.” He is simultaneously preparing to launch his authored book “Gandhi-Bharat,” which documents the historic 1924 Belagavi session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi and the centenary commemorations organized by the Congress.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara reinforced stability by confirming that only a Cabinet reshuffle is under consideration, explicitly ruling out any leadership transition, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dispelled reshuffle discussions in Delhi, stating that conversations centered on analyzing the Congress’s performance in the recent Bihar elections rather than state-level restructuring.
