Shashi Tharoor Fractures Leg in Parliament Fall, Says "Lagne Do Nazar"

Shashi Tharoor suffers hairline leg fracture after fall in Parliament, vows to continue work using wheelchair.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram sustained a hairline fracture on his leg after a fall at Parliament’s Makar Dwar entrance on Wednesday. Wheeled out of the premises, he assured reporters that he will continue his parliamentary responsibilities and campaign work in Kerala despite the injury.

Speaking about his condition, Tharoor said his leg will remain in a cast, and recovery is expected to take four to six weeks. “I will continue my work, but I will have to use a wheelchair, at least for this part of the Budget session,” he added. The first part of the Budget Session is scheduled to conclude on February 13.

The fall occurred while Tharoor was descending the steps on a phone call. Several colleagues, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress’ Imran Masood, helped him regain balance. Tharoor later described the incident humorously, stating he only had “a few sore points including a bruised ego.”

Tharoor also shared a poetic reflection on X, writing, “Jis diye ko toofan mein jalna hoga, usse sambhal sambhal ke chalna hoga,” meaning the lamp that must stay lit amid a storm must tread carefully. He maintained a positive outlook, noting, “Lagne do nazar. We will continue working.”

When asked about ongoing Opposition protests in Parliament, Tharoor remarked that the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, should be allowed to speak on matters already in the public domain. Despite the injury, he emphasized that his parliamentary and public duties would continue uninterrupted.

Tharoor’s fall and his light-hearted response have drawn attention across social media, highlighting his resilience and commitment to his political responsibilities despite physical setbacks.
