Second List of BJP Kerala Assembly Candidates Features Kummanam, B Gopalakrishnan

BJP announces second Kerala Assembly poll list, fielding Kummanam, B Gopalakrishnan, and several new entrants.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, bringing the total number of party nominees to 86. The list features a mix of veteran leaders, newcomers, and high-profile personalities, highlighting the party’s strategy to strengthen its presence across the state.

Former Governor and BJP national executive member Kummanam Rajasekharan will contest from the Aranmula constituency. CC Mukundan, a former CPI MLA who recently joined the BJP, has been named the party candidate for Nattika. These selections reflect the BJP’s efforts to broaden its base by including leaders with diverse political backgrounds.

BJP state vice president B Gopalakrishnan, who reportedly expressed dissatisfaction after being sidelined for the Kodungallur seat, will now contest from Guruvayoor. The party has also fielded reality show star Robin Radhakrishnan in Kundra, underscoring its emphasis on celebrity appeal to attract younger voters.

Other notable candidates include Ashwini ML, BJP Kasaragod district president, who will contest from Kasaragod. Ashwini had previously expressed disagreement over former state president K Surendran’s candidature from Manjeshwar. Cardiologist Dr. N Prathap Kumar, chairman and managing director of the Meditrina Hospital group, will represent the BJP in Kollam.

However, the names of senior BJP leaders MT Ramesh and former Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai, who were widely speculated to contest in the assembly elections, were absent from the second list. Party sources suggested that final decisions regarding these leaders may be announced in subsequent lists.

The BJP’s candidate selections highlight its strategy to balance experienced political figures, newcomers, and public personalities, aiming to strengthen its electoral prospects in Kerala’s highly competitive political landscape. The assembly elections are expected to be a key battleground, with parties intensifying campaigns in the coming weeks.
