Second FIR Filed Against Abhishek Banerjee In Sebaashray Health Camp Case

Second FIR filed in Sebaashray health camp investigation case.

A second First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee in connection with the “Sebaashray” health camp case in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. The latest FIR was filed at Bishnupur police station following a complaint by local BJP leader Abhijit Das, also known as Bobby, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, the case includes multiple sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994, the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019, and the West Bengal Clinical Establishments Act, 2017. The complaint alleges procedural violations and irregularities in the organisation of the health camps.

The FIR names Abhishek Banerjee as the primary accused, along with several others including his executive assistant Sumit Roy, TMC leader Jahangir Khan, former MLA Dilip Mandal, and multiple organisers, doctors and unidentified individuals associated with the “Sebaashray” and “Sebaashray 2” initiatives. Police said investigations are also examining the role of government employees linked to the programme.

The “Sebaashray” initiative was launched by Banerjee as a free medical outreach programme in his Diamond Harbour constituency and later expanded to other parts of the state. However, complaints allege that the camps were conducted without proper permissions, raising concerns about the use of medicines, medical equipment and diagnostic procedures without regulatory approval.

Police officials said that at least 16 complaints have been received regarding the health camps, leading to multiple FIRs being registered, including an earlier one filed on July 2 at Diamond Harbour police station. The allegations include criminal conspiracy, unauthorised medical activity, and violation of healthcare regulations, with claims that public safety may have been compromised.

While investigations are ongoing, authorities are also probing the source of funding for the camps. Some of the individuals named in the FIR, including Jahangir Khan and Dilip Mandal, have reportedly been arrested in related cases. As of now, there has been no official response from Abhishek Banerjee regarding the latest developments.
