Sanjay Raut Must Back Allegations with Proof, Says BJP MLC Pravin Darekar
BJP’s Darekar challenges Sanjay Raut to prove corruption claims.
In a sharp rebuttal, BJP MLC Pravin Darekar on Wednesday challenged Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut to substantiate his claims of widespread corruption and mismanagement in the Maharashtra government. Raut had earlier accused the state of failing to utilize funds allocated by the Union government for disaster management, alleging that no work is approved without bribery. Speaking to reporters, Darekar emphasized that merely naming individuals does not prove their guilt and urged Raut to provide concrete evidence to support his allegations.
Darekar underscored the importance of accountability, stating that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde would take decisive action if credible proof is presented. "Raut has made serious accusations, but they remain baseless without evidence," Darekar remarked. He stressed that the government is open to scrutiny but expects allegations to be backed by facts, not mere rhetoric. This response comes amid heightened political tensions as Maharashtra grapples with severe flooding and related challenges.
Raut’s claims, made earlier on Wednesday, targeted the state’s disaster management department, alleging inefficiency and systemic corruption. He suggested that funds provided by the Centre for disaster relief were not reaching the intended beneficiaries, with bureaucratic hurdles and bribery stalling progress. These accusations have sparked a political firestorm, with the opposition seizing the opportunity to criticize the ruling coalition’s governance.

Darekar, however, turned the tables on Raut, urging him to focus on constructive solutions rather than sensational claims. "At a time when floods are devastating lives, Raut should propose ways to help people instead of making unverified allegations," he said. Darekar also highlighted what he called the "only good thing" in Raut’s statement: an acknowledgment that the Union government has provided substantial financial support to Maharashtra for disaster relief.
As the war of words continues, the exchange underscores the deepening rift between the BJP-led coalition and the Shiv Sena (UBT). With Maharashtra facing ongoing crises, including floods and economic strain, the public awaits clarity on whether Raut’s allegations will lead to accountability or remain political posturing. Darekar’s demand for evidence places the onus on Raut to either substantiate his claims or face criticism for undermining the state’s efforts during a critical time.
