Sachin Pilot Alleges Delay In Rajasthan Polls, Questions Government

Former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led governments at the Centre and in Rajasthan of failing to address public concerns and deliberately delaying various elections in the state. Pilot raised issues including postponed local body polls, the NEET examination controversy and alleged misuse of constitutional institutions during his interaction with the media in Jaipur.

Pilot alleged that the Rajasthan government was intentionally delaying panchayat, municipal and student union elections due to concerns over public sentiment. He claimed that the government was avoiding the electoral process because it feared dissatisfaction among people and growing demands for change. His remarks came ahead of the upcoming Rajasthan Legislative Assembly session, where the Congress is expected to raise several issues against the ruling party.

Questioning the government’s approach towards electoral reforms, Pilot pointed out the contrast between the push for the “One Nation, One Election” concept and the delay in conducting constitutionally mandated elections at the local level. He alleged that despite directions and notices from the Rajasthan High Court, the state government had continued postponing panchayat and municipal polls by citing various reasons.

Pilot also targeted the Centre over the controversy surrounding the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), saying that the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan came after sustained pressure from students and public criticism. However, he argued that administrative changes alone would not resolve the concerns of candidates and called for strict action against those involved in alleged examination irregularities.

Ahead of the Assembly session, Pilot said the Congress would function as a responsible opposition and raise issues affecting citizens. He stated that the party would question the government over law and order, unemployment, inflation and corruption, while alleging that several promises made by the BJP government remained incomplete despite a significant part of its tenure having passed.

The Congress leader further accused the central government of misusing constitutional and investigative agencies to target political opponents and suppress criticism. He asserted that the opposition would continue highlighting public issues and ensure that people’s concerns remain part of the political debate in Rajasthan.
