Saayoni Ghosh Joins Rebel Camp Amid Trinamool Party Crisis, Reports Say
Saayoni Ghosh allegedly joins rebel MPs amid Trinamool crisis
Trinamool Congress MP Saayoni Ghosh, known for her sharp political remarks and strong public support for party chief Mamata Banerjee, has reportedly become part of a growing internal rebellion within the party. The development comes at a time when the Trinamool Congress is facing what observers describe as one of its most significant internal challenges since its rise in West Bengal politics.
According to party sources, Ghosh is among a group of around 20 MPs who recently wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker expressing support for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The move is seen as a direct challenge to the Trinamool Congress leadership and has triggered concerns about widening divisions within the party’s parliamentary ranks. The group is reportedly being coordinated by senior MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.
Reports also suggest that Ghosh has been in contact with other rebel MPs and may have aligned herself with the faction that is currently holding discussions in Delhi. Sources indicate that she is not presently in Kolkata and is believed to be staying in the national capital along with other MPs involved in the political realignment. Another Trinamool MP, Mala Roy, is also reported to have joined the group in Delhi, further strengthening the emerging bloc.

The development is particularly surprising given Ghosh’s recent political positioning within the party. She was appointed as the head of the Trinamool Congress youth wing and had previously been one of Mamata Banerjee’s most vocal supporters. During the West Bengal Assembly election campaign, she had even projected Banerjee as a potential future Prime Minister, frequently linking her leadership to the state’s political identity and electoral success.
Ghosh has also been known for her strong criticism of the BJP and the NDA over the years, including opposition to key legislative proposals and allegations against central institutions. Following the party’s electoral setback, she publicly alleged that the defeat was due to vote manipulation, insisting that Mamata Banerjee had been unfairly denied victory. Her statements and political messaging have often drawn attention for their intensity and directness.
The reported shift has therefore come as a shock within political circles, given her earlier declarations of loyalty and consistent alignment with the party leadership. As the situation develops, the Trinamool Congress leadership is yet to issue an official statement addressing the reported rebellion, while speculation continues over the future alignment of the dissenting MPs.
