Rohit Pawar Says Major Mahayuti Party May Focus On Ally Defections Strategy
Rohit Pawar alleges Mahayuti may target ally defections.
Maharashtra politics witnessed fresh controversy after Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar alleged that internal power dynamics within the ruling Mahayuti alliance could lead to political instability, including attempts to induce defections from within its own partners rather than targeting opposition parties.
Speaking on the issue, Rohit Pawar claimed that a “big ruling party” within the Mahayuti coalition may focus more on weakening its alliance partners than countering opposition groups. He suggested that such a strategy, if pursued, could create distrust among allies and strain the cohesion of the ruling arrangement.
The Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra comprises major parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and factions of the Nationalist Congress Party. The coalition has been navigating internal adjustments following shifting political alignments in the state over the past few years, particularly after multiple splits and realignments among major regional parties.

Rohit Pawar’s remarks come amid ongoing political sparring between ruling and opposition parties over governance, electoral strategy, and allegations of opportunistic politics. He indicated that such internal competition within the ruling bloc could potentially overshadow policy priorities and governance commitments.
He further argued that political stability is essential for effective administration, especially in a state as economically significant as Maharashtra. According to him, any focus on engineering defections within allied groups could weaken trust in coalition politics and distract from public welfare issues. The statement adds to the continuing debate in Maharashtra over alliance management and the evolving nature of coalition politics, where both ruling and opposition formations have frequently faced internal tensions and realignments.
