Rijiju Slams Rahul Gandhi for ‘Malicious’ Attack on Election Commission
Rijiju Blasts Rahul’s ‘Dangerous’ EC Attack!
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday, accusing him of orchestrating a “malicious campaign” to discredit constitutional bodies like the Election Commission (EC) as part of a conspiracy to weaken India’s democracy. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister’s remarks came in response to Gandhi’s explosive claim that the EC was engaging in “vote chori” (vote theft) to favor the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), allegations that have sparked intense political controversy.
Speaking to reporters, Rijiju labeled Gandhi’s behavior as “childish” and “dangerous,” asserting that the Congress leader only questions the EC’s integrity when his party faces electoral defeats. “When Congress wins, everything is fine, but when they lose, the Election Commission is blamed. This is a deliberate attempt to erode trust in our democratic institutions,” Rijiju said. He further claimed that Gandhi’s actions are tarnishing India’s global image, with even other opposition parties reportedly criticizing the Congress leader for playing a “dirty game” that harms the nation.
The controversy stems from Gandhi’s Friday statement in Parliament, where he claimed Congress possesses an “atom bomb” of evidence proving the EC’s involvement in voter roll manipulation, particularly in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The opposition’s protests over the EC’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise have disrupted the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament, which began on July 21, 2025, leading to repeated adjournments.
Rijiju’s rebuttal reflects the BJP’s strategy to counter Gandhi’s allegations by framing them as an attack on India’s democratic framework. The minister emphasized that the EC, as a constitutional body, operates independently and accused Congress of resorting to baseless claims to deflect from its electoral setbacks. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress won 99 seats compared to BJP’s 240, while in recent state polls, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in Maharashtra, further fueling opposition frustration.
As the war of words intensifies, the BJP has rallied behind the EC, with leaders like Home Minister Amit Shah previously defending its autonomy. Political analysts suggest Gandhi’s aggressive stance aims to mobilize opposition voters but risks alienating moderates if the promised evidence fails to materialize. With Bihar’s elections looming, the EC’s credibility remains under scrutiny, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown.
