Rift in Karnataka Congress? DK Shivakumar meets Priyanka, CM Seeks Rahul Appointment

Power Tussle in Karnataka: Shivakumar Meets Priyanka, Siddaramaiah Seeks Rahul Gandhi Audience

Amid simmering tensions within the Karnataka Congress, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met with senior party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Delhi on Wednesday, fueling speculation of an ongoing power struggle with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Shivakumar, who also heads the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, spent around 30 minutes with Priyanka Gandhi at her residence. Though he remained tight-lipped about the conversation, the timing of the visit has triggered renewed debate over the long-standing leadership rivalry between the two top state leaders.

Simultaneously, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is also in the national capital and has reportedly sought a one-on-one meeting with Rahul Gandhi. Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah confirmed his intention to meet Rahul, pending an appointment.

According to party sources, the Congress high command has called for a crucial meeting later Wednesday evening to assess the political situation in Karnataka. The meeting is expected to be attended by Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and other senior leaders, along with both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.

The high command’s intervention comes at a critical time, with murmurs of dissatisfaction within the party ranks threatening the unity of the Karnataka government. While Siddaramaiah has publicly stated his intention to complete the full term, Shivakumar’s increasing assertiveness and his latest Delhi outreach indicate deeper ambitions.

The Congress leadership is keen to quell the unrest before it spirals into a full-blown crisis that could jeopardize the party’s governance in a key southern state.
