Revanth Reddy Requests Rajnath Singh To Establish MRO Facilities At Adilabad Airport

Revanth Reddy urges MRO facilities at Adilabad airport.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to expedite the development of Adilabad airport with comprehensive aviation and defence-linked infrastructure, including Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, cargo terminals, and aircraft hangars, during a high-level meeting in New Delhi. The Chief Minister met the Defence Minister at Kartavya Bhavan on Monday, where he presented a detailed set of proposals aimed at strengthening Telangana’s aviation and defence infrastructure.

During the discussions, he expressed gratitude to the Union government for transferring defence land for the construction of the Gandhi Sarovar project at Bapu Ghat in Hyderabad, calling it an important step in enabling key urban development initiatives in the state. The meeting also served as a platform to review ongoing and proposed defence-related infrastructure projects in Telangana. A central focus of the discussions was the proposed expansion of Adilabad airport, which is being developed under the aegis of the Indian Air Force.

Revanth Reddy assured the Centre of full cooperation from the state government in all aspects of land acquisition and utility shifting required for the timely execution of the project. He emphasised that the airport’s development is significant not only for regional connectivity but also for its strategic importance to national defence and security infrastructure. The Chief Minister strongly advocated for the inclusion of integrated aviation facilities at the airport, particularly MRO services, cargo handling infrastructure, and hangar facilities for aircraft maintenance and storage.

He highlighted that global aviation companies are increasingly seeking suitable hubs for maintenance and operational facilities due to evolving geopolitical and logistical shifts in West Asia and other regions. In this context, he said Adilabad could emerge as a potential aviation support hub if developed with modern infrastructure and long-term planning. According to officials, the proposal aligns with Telangana’s broader strategy to position itself as a key destination for aerospace, defence manufacturing, and logistics investments.

The integration of MRO capabilities is seen as particularly important, as India continues to expand its aviation sector and reduce dependence on foreign maintenance hubs. The inclusion of cargo and hangar infrastructure is also expected to enhance the airport’s operational viability and attract private sector participation once civilian operations are introduced alongside defence usage. In addition to the airport project, Revanth Reddy also requested the Defence Minister’s intervention in expediting approvals for a proposed Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) or Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) facility at Devarakadra in Mahbubnagar district.

The site has already been identified for the proposed defence establishment, and the state government has sought faster clearances to move the project into the implementation stage. Officials familiar with the discussions said the proposals reflect a coordinated effort between the state and central governments to expand defence-linked infrastructure in southern India while simultaneously improving regional connectivity and industrial development.

The Chief Minister reiterated Telangana’s commitment to providing full administrative and logistical support for all such projects, particularly in land acquisition, utility relocation, and coordination with central agencies. The meeting is expected to further strengthen ongoing cooperation between Telangana and the Union Defence Ministry, with both sides likely to continue consultations on timelines, approvals, and implementation frameworks for the proposed airport and defence projects.
