Rekha Gupta Reacts To AAP MLA Video Showing Him In Undergarments

Rekha Gupta reacts after an AAP MLA’s video in undergarments surfaces.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has criticised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Anil Jha Vats after a video showing him dressed in a vest and shorts while attending to constituents went viral on social media. The MLA, who represents Kirari in northwest Delhi, was seen signing application papers for people visiting his office.

The video reportedly shows Vats seated at his desk while residents, including several women, waited to submit documents and have their applications signed. A saffron cloth was draped across his lap as he attended to the paperwork. The interaction was reportedly linked to applications for financial assistance under the Delhi government's women-focused welfare scheme.

Raising the issue in the Delhi Assembly, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the MLA's appearance as inappropriate and urged him to dress suitably while interacting with constituents. She also demanded that Vats's Assembly membership be cancelled, arguing that such conduct by an elected representative was unacceptable.

Gupta further accused the AAP MLA of making inappropriate gestures during the Assembly proceedings and sought action against him. The allegations triggered protests from AAP members in the House. Vats rejected the charge and asked the Chief Minister to provide evidence of the alleged gestures, arguing that the allegations were being made instead of addressing issues concerning residents.

The controversy comes as the Delhi government's Lakshmi Yojana continues to attract applications. Launched on August 1, the scheme provides financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month to eligible women. According to the Delhi government, more than 5.14 lakh registrations had been recorded within seven days of the scheme's launch, while over 2.18 lakh applications had been submitted.

The AAP has, however, raised concerns over the eligibility criteria for the scheme, arguing that several economically vulnerable women could be excluded from receiving the benefit. The political dispute over the scheme has continued alongside the Assembly confrontation, with the latest controversy involving Vats adding another point of contention between the ruling BJP and the Opposition AAP.
