Rahul Gandhi to PM Modi: Bones Can Heal, But What About Dreams?

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary over police action against students who participated in protests in Bihar. Gandhi questioned whether the authorities could do more than treat the physical injuries suffered by the protesters, asking if their damaged educational and career aspirations could also be restored. His remarks came after he met Bihar-based students who were reportedly injured during the police action.

Gandhi shared a video of his interaction with the students and young people from Bihar, saying they had faced what he described as “horrific police brutality” for speaking out against alleged irregularities in the examination system. He used the meeting to highlight the concerns of students who have been demanding accountability over issues surrounding examinations and the broader recruitment and education process in the State.

Addressing the Prime Minister and Bihar Chief Minister, Gandhi asked whether the government could restore the dreams of students affected by the alleged police action. “Prime Minister ji, Chief Minister ji, their broken bones would be fixed. Can you restore their shattered dreams?” he said. The statement framed the issue not only as one involving injuries sustained during protests but also as a wider concern over the impact of examination-related disputes on the future prospects of young people.

The students’ protest has brought renewed attention to allegations of irregularities in the examination system and the manner in which authorities respond to demonstrations.
