Rahul Gandhi Raises Kashmir Concerns Alongside Pellet Injury Victim

Rahul Gandhi raises Kashmir issue with pellet victim.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday intensified his criticism of the Centre over allegations that security personnel used pellet guns during a student protest march in Delhi on July 20. Addressing the media with an injured protester beside him, Gandhi accused the government of denying the alleged use of pellet guns and demanded accountability for the injuries suffered by students during the demonstration.

Standing alongside 19-year-old Sahil Lohchab, Gandhi claimed that the visible injuries on the student’s face and body were evidence of pellet firing during the police action. He displayed the injuries before media cameras and said the government should stop denying the allegations. Police and government authorities have maintained that pellet guns were not used during the action, while several injured protesters have claimed they suffered pellet-related injuries.

Sahil, a final-year student at Delhi University’s School of Open Learning, was allegedly injured during the protest while carrying the national flag. Gandhi said the student suffered injuries to his right eye and other parts of his body, adding that doctors were uncertain about whether he would regain full vision. According to reports, Sahil underwent surgery at the AIIMS Trauma Centre following the incident.

Gandhi said Sahil’s case represented the concerns of thousands of students who had participated in protests over alleged examination paper leaks and demanded action against those responsible. He alleged that students were subjected to police action despite protesting peacefully and called for those responsible for the use of force to face consequences. He also demanded compensation and justice for injured protesters.

The Congress leader reiterated his earlier demands, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to affected students. Gandhi alleged that the Education Ministry had failed to address concerns related to examination irregularities and said accountability was necessary to restore confidence among young people.

The controversy has intensified the political dispute between the Opposition and the government over the handling of student protests. While the Opposition has accused authorities of excessive force, the government has defended its position and maintained that it is committed to addressing concerns related to examination transparency. Investigations and political discussions over the issue continue amid demands for further action.
