Rahul Gandhi Questions BJP Government Over Satya Niketan Hostel Collapse

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the BJP-led government of failing to ensure accountability following the collapse of a five-storey building at Satya Niketan in Delhi. The incident, which occurred in a congested area near Delhi University’s South Campus, killed seven people, according to the information provided.

Gandhi alleged that the government follows a pattern in which preventive action is inadequate before accidents, while responsibility is later placed on lower-level officials. In a post on X, he used the hashtag “TINA” and argued that there was no accountability for such incidents. He also questioned how such helplessness could persist in Delhi despite what he described as a “triple-engine” government.

The Congress leader linked the Satya Niketan collapse to other recent incidents in the national capital. He referred to the deaths of six people in a similar disaster in Saidulajab during the past four months and a fire in Hauz Rani that claimed 22 lives. Gandhi argued that repeated accidents resulting in deaths highlight the need for stronger preventive measures and clearer accountability.

Gandhi also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the use of labels such as “dimagi Naxal” and “naraaz phoopha” against people who question the government. He alleged that such remarks are intended to discredit those demanding answers and shift attention away from questions of governance and responsibility.

The Leader of Opposition further criticised the BJP government’s record over the past 12 years, alleging that it has focused on broad political messaging while failing to adequately address issues affecting people on the ground. He maintained that the lack of accountability was linked to what he described as a lack of political intent.

His remarks came a day after the building collapse at Satya Niketan, where students were among those inside the structure. The incident has renewed attention on building safety and preparedness in densely populated areas of Delhi.
