Rahul Gandhi Links Fresh Manipur Violence To PM Modi Government's Divisive Ideology And Policies
Rahul Gandhi blames Centre over fresh Manipur violence.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday criticised the Centre following the latest outbreak of violence in Manipur, alleging that the unrest was a consequence of the Narendra Modi government's "divisive ideology." His remarks came a day after several houses were set on fire in Kamjong district, where fresh clashes reignited tensions between Kuki and Naga communities after a period of relative calm.
In a post reacting to the violence, Rahul Gandhi said the continuing unrest in Manipur reflected the failure of the Centre to restore lasting peace in the state. He accused the Modi government of fostering divisions that had contributed to repeated outbreaks of violence, even as authorities continued efforts to contain the latest incidents along the India-Myanmar border.
According to reports, armed groups launched attacks in Manipur's Kamjong district on Wednesday, signalling a resurgence of hostilities between the Kuki and Naga communities. Around 12.30 pm, miscreants allegedly set fire to Phaimol, a Kuki-Zo settlement located near the international border. Fortunately, the village was unoccupied at the time, as residents had already taken shelter in a nearby village more than a week earlier amid security concerns.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body representing the Kuki community in the state, strongly condemned the arson and alleged that the attack was carried out by armed groups operating from across the border in Myanmar. The organisation called for immediate action to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of border villages vulnerable to cross-border incursions.
In what was suspected to be a retaliatory attack, armed miscreants also targeted Kongkan Thana and nearby areas inhabited by the Tangkhul Naga community. Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing said at least 12 houses belonging to Tangkhul Naga families were set ablaze during the violence. The incidents have heightened fears of renewed ethnic tensions in a region that has witnessed repeated episodes of conflict over the past year.
The latest violence has once again underscored the fragile security situation in Manipur, with Kuki and Naga organisations trading allegations over responsibility for the attacks. As security agencies monitor the situation and authorities work to prevent further escalation, political leaders have continued to exchange blame over the handling of the crisis. The renewed unrest is expected to intensify calls for stronger security measures and sustained dialogue to restore peace in the conflict-hit border district.
