Rahul Gandhi Congratulates V D Satheesan And Thanks K C Venugopal After Kerala CM Oath Ceremony

Rahul Gandhi congratulates V D Satheesan and thanks K C Venugopal, striking balance after Kerala CM oath ceremony.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi played a key role in striking a political balance within the party leadership following the swearing-in of the new Kerala Chief Minister, V. D. Satheesan, in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. The development comes after weeks of internal discussions within the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), which returned to power in the state after a decade-long gap. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Central Stadium, where Satheesan officially assumed office as Kerala’s Chief Minister.

The event marked a significant political shift in Kerala, with the UDF reclaiming governance after two consecutive terms of the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Satheesan was sworn in along with a 20-member council of ministers, representing a mix of senior leaders and alliance partners. The ceremony was attended by several high-profile leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and chief ministers from multiple Congress-ruled states, highlighting the importance of the political transition.

According to reports, internal Congress deliberations preceding the appointment saw multiple contenders for the chief ministerial post, including senior leader K. C. Venugopal. However, the final decision reflected a consensus approach aimed at maintaining unity within the party and its allies. Rahul Gandhi’s involvement is being seen as part of efforts to ensure a “fine balance” between competing leadership claims while preserving coalition stability in Kerala.

The swearing-in ceremony also symbolised a broader consolidation for the Congress in southern India, where the party is currently in power in multiple states. Alongside Satheesan, the new cabinet includes representatives from allied parties such as the Indian Union Muslim League and other regional partners, reinforcing the coalition structure of the government.

In his first set of decisions as Chief Minister, Satheesan’s administration is expected to prioritise welfare measures and campaign promises made during the election. Early announcements include social support schemes aimed at women, workers, and students, indicating a strong focus on welfare governance as the new government begins its term. The formation of the cabinet and its initial policy direction are being closely watched as a signal of the UDF’s administrative agenda going forward.
