Raghav Chadha Meets PM Modi Amid Speculation Over Punjab Role Ahead Of 2027
Chadha’s PM Modi meeting fuels speculation over Punjab role.
Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and discussed the political situation in Punjab. The meeting comes less than six months before the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, as political activity intensifies in the state. Chadha's meeting with Modi also followed an interaction between the Prime Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal a day earlier.
After the meeting, Chadha described it as "a morning to cherish" and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the interaction. In a post on X, he said the discussion was detailed and enriching and that he was grateful for the opportunity to benefit from Modi's insights and guidance. The meeting has drawn attention as Chadha prepares for a more active political role after his move to the BJP.
Chadha was among eight former AAP Rajya Sabha members who recently joined the BJP in a significant shift in political loyalties in Punjab. The former AAP MPs were among 37 Rajya Sabha members who met Modi over breakfast on Wednesday. The defections have added a new dimension to Punjab's political landscape ahead of the Assembly elections.

One of the former AAP MPs who joined the BJP, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, also spoke about his meeting with Modi. Sahney described the interaction as an honour and said he was inspired by the Prime Minister's vision and leadership. He also expressed his intention to contribute to what he described as efforts to build a stronger and more prosperous India.
The latest political developments come as parties prepare for the 2027 Assembly elections in Punjab. The BJP has been seeking to strengthen its political presence in the state, while the recent movement of former AAP Rajya Sabha members into the party has attracted considerable attention. Chadha's meeting with Modi is particularly significant given his previous prominent role in AAP and his political profile in Punjab.
Sources indicated that Chadha is likely to become more active in Punjab in the coming days as parties begin intensifying their preparations for the elections. His increased involvement could become an important part of the BJP's strategy in the state, although the precise role he will take up has not been formally announced.
