Punjab Congress Leadership Meets Rahul Gandhi As Organisational Reshuffle Speculation Intensifies
Rahul urges unity amid Punjab Congress organisational speculation.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday held a series of meetings with senior Punjab Congress leaders in New Delhi amid growing speculation about a possible organisational reshuffle in the state unit ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, which are due early next year. The discussions come at a crucial time for the party as it seeks to consolidate its position in one of its key political battlegrounds.
The meetings took place at 10 Janpath, the residence of Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Among those present were Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and senior leaders Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Vijay Inder Singla. According to party sources, Rahul Gandhi interacted with each leader individually to understand their views on the party’s organisational strategy and electoral roadmap.
Following the discussions, leaders indicated that Rahul Gandhi emphasised the importance of unity within the state unit. He reportedly urged them to contest the upcoming elections collectively, stressing that the Congress has a strong chance of returning to power in Punjab if internal cohesion is maintained. The meetings also touched upon leadership dynamics and the broader approach the party should adopt in the run-up to the polls.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Pratap Singh Bajwa said he had placed his views before the leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to whatever decision the party takes. He described himself as a "committed soldier" of the Congress, stating that leaders from Punjab have historically made sacrifices for the state and the country. Other participants echoed similar sentiments, emphasising that the final decision on organisational matters rests with Rahul Gandhi.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, Rahul Gandhi conveyed a clear message to the leaders that internal unity would be critical for electoral success in Punjab. He is believed to have said that the party must fight the elections together and prioritise the interests of the state. The leaders, in turn, presented their perspectives on leadership issues and suggested possible approaches for strengthening the party structure ahead of the polls.
The meeting comes shortly after the Congress high command appointed a team of All India Congress Committee observers, including Ajay Maken, Meenakshi Natarajan and Bhajan Lal Jatav, to assess the political situation in Punjab. The observers have already submitted their report to the party leadership, which is expected to guide future organisational decisions. With internal reviews underway and elections approaching, the party is now expected to take key calls on leadership and strategy in the coming weeks.
