Punjab BJP Accuses AAP Of Violence After Alleged Attack On Leaders

Punjab BJP alleged attacks on leaders and accused AAP of hooliganism.

Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party, alleging that its workers and leaders turned political protests into “open hooliganism” by attacking BJP offices and intimidating party leaders across Punjab. Sharma accused the ruling party of encouraging aggressive political behaviour during demonstrations held against recent Enforcement Directorate action involving Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora.

Addressing the media in Chandigarh, Sharma specifically alleged that Balachaur MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi, who recently joined AAP from the Shiromani Akali Dal, entered the BJP district office in Balachaur along with supporters and assaulted BJP workers while vandalising property. He further claimed that the incident occurred in the presence of police personnel, who allegedly failed to intervene or take action against those involved.

Sharma accused AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal of shielding corrupt leaders and questioned whether the party had now also given them “a licence to assault people.” He alleged that similar incidents of intimidation and misconduct were reported in Ludhiana and other districts during AAP’s statewide protests. According to Sharma, the ruling party was attempting to portray investigations into alleged corruption as attacks on democracy and Punjab’s identity.

The BJP leader also criticised what he described as AAP’s “double standards” regarding investigative agencies. He said the party had earlier supported vigilance investigations against opposition leaders but was now opposing Enforcement Directorate action when its own leaders came under scrutiny. Sharma maintained that political protests were a democratic right, but storming party offices and allegedly threatening political rivals crossed acceptable limits.

Targeting Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Sharma accused the state government of politicising law enforcement and pushing Punjab towards a confrontational political culture. He also objected to recent remarks by some AAP leaders allegedly linking the BJP to Pakistan’s ISI, calling such statements irresponsible and serious. Sharma demanded immediate police action in the Balachaur incident and said he would personally approach the local SSP seeking registration of a case.

Meanwhile, Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar also criticised the alleged actions of AAP supporters and shared videos on social media purportedly showing damage at the BJP office. The Aam Aadmi Party has not yet issued a detailed response to the allegations made by BJP leaders regarding the incidents.
