Pune Shocker: Fake Courier Agent Rapes IT Professional, Leaves Chilling Threat

A 22-year-old IT professional was allegedly raped in her apartment in Pune’s Kondhwa area on Wednesday evening by an unidentified man posing as a courier delivery executive, police reported.

The assailant, who remains at large, also took a selfie on the victim’s phone and left a menacing message threatening to share her photos online if she reported the crime, ominously adding, “I will come again.” The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in a housing society when the victim, alone at home as her brother was out of town, answered the door to a man claiming to deliver a bank-related document.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde, the suspect asked for a pen to sign a document, and when the woman turned away, he entered the apartment and latched the door. The victim lost consciousness and awoke around 8:30 p.m., unable to recall further details of the assault. Police suspect the attacker may have used a substance to render her unconscious, with investigations ongoing to confirm if a spray was involved.

After regaining consciousness, the woman alerted relatives, who informed the police. A medical examination was conducted, and a case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 64 (rape), 77 (voyeurism), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation). The selfie, capturing the victim’s back and part of the suspect’s face, along with the threatening message, has become a key piece of evidence. Authorities are scanning CCTV footage from the housing society and working on a suspect sketch to aid the manhunt.

“Ten teams, including five from the crime branch and five zonal teams, are actively investigating,” Shinde said, emphasizing the deployment of forensic experts to analyze the crime scene. The brazen nature of the crime, coupled with the suspect’s chilling threat, has sparked outrage and heightened concerns about safety in Pune’s residential areas.
