President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday paid tribute to Goce Delchev, a revered revolutionary leader and national hero of North Macedonia, by laying a wreath at his grave at the Church of Saint Spas in Skopje. The visit was part of her official engagements during her state visit to the country, where she is focusing on strengthening bilateral relations between India and North Macedonia.

The President’s Secretariat said Murmu honoured Goce Delchev, who is remembered in North Macedonia for his role in the region’s freedom movement and revolutionary struggle. The wreath-laying ceremony highlighted the cultural and historical significance attached to Delchev’s legacy in the country.

During the meeting, Murmu and Davkova also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. President Murmu received a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour before the talks. Davkova described Murmu’s visit as an important step towards expanding cooperation between the two countries and highlighted areas where India and North Macedonia can work together, including economic development and technological collaboration.

Davkova also referred to the shared humanitarian connection between the two nations through the legacy of Saint Mother Teresa, along with their historical association with the Non-Aligned Movement. She said these common links provide a strong foundation for a new phase of bilateral engagement.

President Murmu arrived in Skopje as part of her three-nation overseas tour after completing her visit to Moldova. She was received at the airport by North Macedonia’s Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Timcho Mucunski. During her stay, Murmu is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, address the Assembly of North Macedonia and participate in the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.
