Political Tensions Rise As Aaditya Thackeray Targets Maharashtra Leadership Dynamics

Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Aaditya Thackeray has alleged that the ongoing political realignments and defections in Maharashtra are part of a calculated strategy aimed at influencing leadership dynamics within the ruling alliance. His remarks come shortly after six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs reportedly joined the Eknath Shinde-led faction, strengthening the position of the ruling coalition in Parliament.

In an interview, Thackeray claimed that certain elements within the BJP want Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to be moved into the Union Cabinet in order to limit his political influence at the state level. He suggested that such a move would indirectly benefit Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, whom he described as focused on returning to the Chief Minister’s post.

Thackeray echoed earlier remarks made by Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, who had referred to the developments as part of what he termed “Operation Devendra,” alleging an effort to contain Fadnavis politically. Responding to such claims, Fadnavis has dismissed the allegations, stating that he has no concerns about his position and enjoys public and party support.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also drew comparisons with political developments in other opposition parties, alleging that similar patterns of defections and internal instability were being used to weaken regional political forces. He accused rival political actors of attempting to undermine Maharashtra’s political voice through engineered splits and realignments.

Addressing recent defections from his party, including those of MPs and former MLA Sachin Ahir, Thackeray alleged that some leaders had been “bought” by the rival faction. He further described such shifts as politically motivated decisions aimed at strengthening legislative support for contentious policy measures, including proposals related to delimitation and constitutional concerns.

The ongoing exchange highlights the deepening political tensions within Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena factions, with both sides trading allegations over defections, leadership ambitions, and long-term political strategy ahead of future elections.
