POCSO Case Filed Against Bandi Sanjay's Son; Minister Blames Opposition
A POCSO case is filed against Bandi Sanjay's son; the minister denies the charges and accuses the opposition of political targeting.
A major political controversy has erupted in Telangana after a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered against Bhagirath Sai, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The case was filed by the Pet Basheerabad police in Hyderabad based on allegations made by the family of a minor girl, triggering sharp political reactions and protests from opposition parties, particularly the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
According to police sources, the complaint was registered on Friday under provisions of the POCSO Act after allegations were brought forward by the girl’s family. Soon after the case was filed, Bhagirath Sai reportedly submitted a counter-complaint in Karimnagar, accusing the complainant’s family of attempted extortion and blackmail. The development has intensified political tensions in Telangana, with both sides presenting conflicting versions of the events while investigations continue.
Addressing party workers during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds, Bandi Sanjay strongly denied the allegations and accused his political opponents of orchestrating a conspiracy to damage his reputation and weaken the BJP in the state. In an emotional speech, the union minister claimed that rivals who could not challenge him politically were attempting to target him and his family through fabricated accusations.

The controversy has quickly escalated into a political battle between the BJP and opposition parties in Telangana. Leaders from the BRS accused Bandi Sanjay of attempting to shield his son and alleged collusion between the BJP and the ruling Indian National Congress government in the state. Opposition leaders questioned whether the investigation would remain impartial given the involvement of a senior Union minister’s family member and demanded strict legal action if the allegations are proven.
The timing of the controversy is being viewed as politically sensitive for the BJP in Telangana, where the party has been attempting to strengthen its organisational base and expand its influence. Bandi Sanjay, a prominent BJP leader in the state, has frequently been at the centre of aggressive political campaigns against rival parties. The allegations against his son have therefore attracted significant media attention and intensified political confrontation ahead of future electoral battles in the state.
Police officials have not yet released detailed findings from the investigation, and no judicial conclusions have been reached regarding the allegations or the counter-claims made by Bhagirath Sai. Authorities are expected to continue examining evidence and statements from all parties involved. The case is likely to remain under close political and public scrutiny as it develops further, given its legal seriousness and the high-profile political figures connected to the controversy.
