PMK Leader’s Visit to Vijay’s TVK Headquarters Sparks Intense Alliance Talks
A PMK leader’s visit to Vijay-led TVK headquarters sparks alliance speculation ahead of Tamil Nadu polls.
A surprise visit by PMK Spokesperson and Advocate K Balu to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) headquarters in Panaiyur on December 11, 2025, has fuelled speculation about a potential pre-poll alliance ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Balu, representing the faction led by PMK President Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, met TVK General Secretary Bussy N Anand and administrative committee coordinator K A Sengottaiyan to extend a formal invitation for TVK to join a statewide protest demanding a caste-based survey, scheduled for December 17 in Chennai.
Both parties have consistently advocated for a comprehensive caste census, criticising the ruling DMK Government for deferring to the Centre on the issue despite states like Bihar and Telangana conducting their own surveys.
Balu downplayed alliance rumours, telling reporters that the visit was solely to mobilise support for the protest, which excludes the DMK but invites other parties and organisations. "This is only protest-related. Who knows what will happen later?" he remarked, leaving room for interpretation. The outreach aligns with shared demands on social justice and reservation policies, areas where PMK—representing the Vanniyar community—has long campaigned, while TVK has positioned caste enumeration as a cornerstone of equitable governance. Anbumani Ramadoss has framed the survey as essential for evidence-based welfare, warning that existing quotas risk legal challenges without updated data.

The timing coincides with TVK's accelerated election preparations: on the same day, the party formed committees for seat-sharing negotiations and manifesto drafting, with Vijay declared as its chief ministerial face and alliances open only to parties accepting his leadership. TVK has ruled out ties with the DMK or BJP, focusing on a "clean" image distinct from established Dravidian majors. PMK, amid an internal leadership tussle between Anbumani and founder S Ramadoss, remains unaligned, having explored options with AIADMK recently.
Political observers view the interaction as a tentative bridge in a fluid landscape potentially heading toward a multi-cornered contest involving DMK-led SPA, AIADMK-BJP NDA, TVK, and smaller players. A TVK-PMK tie-up could bolster TVK's foothold in northern districts where PMK holds sway, while offering PMK a platform in Vijay's rising popularity. However, with PMK factions planning separate protests and TVK prioritising ideological compatibility, any formal alliance remains speculative as parties manoeuvre for the high-stakes 2026 polls.
