PM Says Bihar Won’t Forgive Insults to His Mother

Bihar’s people urged to punish opposition’s shameful act.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound anguish on Tuesday over derogatory remarks made against his late mother during the Congress-led ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga, Bihar, vowing that while he may forgive the RJD and Congress, the people of Bihar will never pardon them. Addressing a gathering in Delhi while virtually inaugurating a women’s cooperative for self-help groups in Bihar, Modi condemned the opposition for stooping to personal insults, linking their actions to a broader disrespect for women and the nation itself.

“My late mother had nothing to do with politics, so what was her fault? Why was she abused?” Modi questioned, his voice heavy with emotion. He described the incident as an affront not only to his family but to the mothers and daughters of Bihar, a state revered as the land of Maa Janki and Chhath Puja, where women are deeply respected. “I am my mother’s son, and I am sharing my pain with you. The position of a mother is more than that of God,” he said, recalling his mother’s selfless sacrifices, such as saving money for her children instead of buying herself a saree.

Modi accused the RJD and Congress of harboring an anti-women mentality, alleging that their history of governance—particularly the RJD’s “mafia raaj”—saw rampant crime, including murder, extortion, and rape, disproportionately affecting women. “The RJD government gave protection to murderers and rapists, and women bore the brunt. It was the women of Bihar who ousted them, and now they seek revenge,” he charged. He further claimed that Congress resents the rise of leaders from backward communities, using insults as a weapon against those who challenge their dominance.

The Prime Minister called on the people of Bihar to hold the opposition accountable as assembly elections loom later in 2025. “I may forgive them, but the people of Bihar will never pardon them for insulting my mother. In every street and neighborhood, let the voice be clear: we won’t tolerate this insult to a mother or RJD’s tyranny and Congress’ attacks,” he urged, rallying citizens to demand answers and deliver electoral punishment.

The controversy stems from the Voter Adhikar Yatra, a campaign aimed at raising voter awareness, which took a contentious turn when abusive remarks targeting Modi’s mother were allegedly made from the dais. The incident has sparked outrage across Bihar, with supporters of the Prime Minister condemning the opposition’s tactics. Modi framed the insult as part of a broader pattern of disrespect, accusing the opposition of treating women as “objects of exploitation and oppression.”

As Bihar gears up for its electoral battle, Modi’s impassioned speech has intensified the political atmosphere, positioning the insult as a rallying cry for his supporters. The Prime Minister’s call for justice resonates deeply in a state where cultural reverence for women is a cornerstone, setting the stage for a heated showdown in the upcoming polls.
