PM Modi’s GST Overhaul Slashes Taxes, Promises Huge Savings for Millions, says MP CM Yadav

Madhya Pradesh CM hails Modi’s GST reforms easing taxes on essentials.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hailed the recent overhaul of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication to the welfare of all Indians, including entrepreneurs, farmers, and the underprivileged, amid global economic challenges. Speaking in Ujjain, Yadav highlighted the GST Council’s decision to streamline tax slabs and reduce rates on essential items, effective from September 22, 2025, as a transformative step for the nation’s economy.

The GST Council, in its meeting on September 3, 2025, simplified the tax structure from four slabs to two—5 percent and 18 percent—eliminating the 12 percent and 28 percent slabs. This reform slashes taxes on a wide range of daily-use items, including roti, paratha, hair oil, ice cream, TVs, and agricultural equipment, while exempting personal health and life insurance policies from the previous 18 percent levy. Lifesaving medicines, including cancer drugs, and educational materials like charts, pencils, globes, and notebooks, are now tax-free, delivering significant relief to households and students.

Yadav emphasized that these changes fulfill Modi’s Independence Day promise to deliver a “bouquet of benefits” to the public, coinciding with the start of Navratri on September 22. He underscored the government’s focus on supporting farmers by reducing GST on agricultural tools, tractor tires, bio-pesticides, irrigation systems, and sprinklers from 18 percent to 5 percent. The zero-rating of health insurance and critical medications was described as a historic move to ensure accessible healthcare and support for those battling serious illnesses.

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar echoed Yadav’s sentiments, calling the GST reforms a commendable step that will uplift living standards for the poor, farmers, and common citizens. Speaking after paying tribute to former Speaker Ramkishore Shukla, Tomar noted that the elimination of tax on essentials like paneer, chhena, tetra pack milk, khakra, and medicines for rare diseases and cancer will make healthcare and daily necessities more affordable.

The GST reforms are poised to boost domestic spending, cushion the economic impact of global challenges such as U.S. tariffs, and enhance India’s economic resilience under Modi’s leadership, as praised by both Yadav and Tomar.
