PM Modi Writes To LS, RS Leaders On Women’s Quota Implementation Timeline
PM Modi urges women’s quota implementation by 2029 in Parliament.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written to the floor leaders of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, stressing the importance of implementing the women’s reservation provisions in Parliament by 2029.In his communication, Modi underlined that timely execution of the women’s quota is essential for strengthening democratic representation and ensuring greater participation of women in legislative processes. He urged all political parties to work together to build consensus on the operational roadmap for implementation.
The Prime Minister’s letter comes amid ongoing political discussions over the framework and timeline for rolling out the reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. The legislation, which aims to increase female representation in elected bodies, has been widely debated across party lines, particularly regarding its linkage with delimitation and census-related processes.
Modi highlighted that the successful implementation of the quota would mark a significant step toward inclusive governance and would enhance the role of women in shaping national policy. He also called on party leaders to set aside political differences and prioritise long-term democratic reform.
