PM Modi Leads BJP Strategy Meet In Chennai Ahead Of April 23 Tamil Nadu Polls
PM Modi meets senior BJP leaders in Chennai to strategize ahead of April 23 Tamil Nadu elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will convene a key strategy meeting with senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Chennai on Saturday as part of preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23. The meeting, to be held at a star hotel in Guindy at 11 a.m., is expected to focus on election planning, coordination with alliance partners, and efforts to boost the party’s performance in the state.
The strategy session comes as campaigning intensifies for the Puducherry Assembly elections, slated for April 9, where the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)—comprising the BJP, N.R. Congress, AIADMK, and other allies—is actively campaigning. Modi’s presence in the region underscores the NDA’s focus on strengthening its position in southern India ahead of the polls.
On Friday, the Prime Minister arrived in Chennai from New Delhi by special aircraft and subsequently flew to Puducherry by helicopter. There, he led a high-profile roadshow in support of NDA candidates, attracting large crowds and energising party workers ahead of the elections. After completing his campaign activities in Puducherry, Modi returned to Chennai around 7 p.m., checking into a hotel in Guindy and engaging in informal discussions with key BJP leaders and alliance representatives.

Saturday’s strategy meeting will see participation from several top party leaders, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal, senior in-charge Sudhakar Reddy, National Secretary Arvind Menon, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagenthran, Union Minister of State L. Murugan, former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, Tamilisai Soundararajan, K. Annamalai, and Vanathi Srinivasan. Annamalai, who had been campaigning in Kerala, returned to Chennai to attend the meeting, reflecting its importance.
The Prime Minister is expected to urge leaders to surpass previous election results and strengthen grassroots mobilisation across constituencies. The meeting is scheduled to continue until around noon, after which Modi will remain at the hotel until 1 p.m., meeting leaders from alliance parties and candidates contesting Chennai constituencies.
Unlike recent public rallies in Chengalpattu, Madurai, and Tiruchy, this visit is primarily focused on internal consultations with party and alliance leadership. No public roadshow is planned in Chennai during this leg of the Prime Minister’s campaign, highlighting the strategic nature of the discussions.
