PM Modi Extends Congratulations To Anutin Charnvirakul On Election As Thailand PM
PM Modi congratulates Anutin Charnvirakul on Thailand PM election, pledges closer India-Thailand cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Anutin Charnvirakul on his election as the Prime Minister of Thailand, following a parliamentary vote in which Charnvirakul secured a simple majority in the House of Representatives. PM Modi expressed his readiness to work closely with the Thai leader to further strengthen the multifaceted India-Thailand Strategic Partnership, highlighting the countries’ shared civilisational heritage, cultural ties, and commitment to regional peace and prosperity.
In a message posted on X, PM Modi said, “Heartiest congratulations to Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul on his election as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. I look forward to working closely with him. Together, we will further deepen the multifaceted India-Thailand Strategic Partnership. Our ties are rooted in shared civilisational heritage, close cultural connect and vibrant people-to-people ties. India and Thailand remain united in our shared aspirations for peace, progress and prosperity for our peoples.”
Charnvirakul, a candidate from the Bhumjaithai Party, was re-elected on Thursday after securing a simple majority in a vote by Thailand’s House of Representatives. In the roll call, he received 293 votes, surpassing the simple majority required out of 499 members, while his rival, Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut of the People's Party, secured 119 votes, according to House Speaker Sophon Zaram.

In his address to parliament, Charnvirakul assured members of his commitment to collaborating with all representatives to ensure Thailand’s prosperity and safeguard the public interest of its citizens. He is awaiting endorsement by King Maha Vajiralongkorn to officially assume his term as the 32nd Prime Minister of Thailand.
Charnvirakul first became Thailand’s Prime Minister in September last year following a parliamentary vote after former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra was removed by the Constitutional Court over constitutional and ethical violations. His re-election consolidates the Bhumjaithai Party’s majority in the newly-elected House of Representatives.
India and Thailand have long-standing cultural, economic, and strategic ties, and PM Modi’s message reflects the two countries’ shared commitment to deepening their partnership across multiple sectors, reinforcing regional cooperation and people-to-people engagement.
